Desert Rose was originally conceived as one section of a four-part collaborative movie anthology entitled The Marshes back in 2000 or 2001. Gilbert decided early on to make his storyboards for Desert Rose in a comic format so that they could be published. A monthly Las Vegas ‘zine called Pocket Book Heroes was the first place the pages saw print in installments. The production quality was lackluster (after all, it was a ‘zine), but it was still nice to see the story in print. Still, there was a desire to produce the book in a professional format. Finally, in 2004, the book was re-lettered and collected into one volume. Since then, the film version of Desert Rose has been completed, with the other three parts of the anthology sitting in limbo (one has also been drawn in comic format, though).
Presented here is the first ten pages of the book. Every week we will post two or three pages until the whole story is online.
